Washington’s recreational opportunities extend well beyond its quaint Central Park! The city and surrounding natural areas feature some of the best places to experience nature, wildlife, hiking, biking, boating, fishing and sports activities in Southeast Iowa. With its bandstand and fountain, Central Park in Washington, Iowa, hosts many community events, such as the Farmers’ Market and Thursday Night Live in the summer and fall. Take the kids for a swim at the Washington Steele Family Aquatic Center, walk the dog at Sunset Dog Park, or enjoy disc golf in Sunset Park. The Kewash Trail is within city limits, too, so bring the bikes for the whole family!

And did we mention the Washington Skate Park? Yes, we have one of those, as well. Nearby, within Washington County, there are many places to fish, camp, hunt, golf, birdwatch, picnic, ride horses, and rent a cabin. Anything you like to do outside, you can do in Washington County!

The City of Washington has been a “Tree City USA” since 1992 and has received the Growth Award for 10 years. It’s part of an ongoing effort to keep Washington beautiful and inviting to residents and visitors alike.
