New Fireworks Ordinance for Washington Iowa

The City of Washington has changed the City Ordinance related to fireworks to align with a change in the Iowa Code.

The use or explosion of consumer fireworks within the city is prohibited except during the following times:

1. On July 3^rd between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
2. On July 4^th between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
3. On December 31^st between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on January 1^st

To report the illegal use of fireworks, please call the non-emergency number 319-653-2107 with a description of the offender and the address. You will be asked to provide your contact information for reporting purposes and may be required to testify in court as a witness.

Officers responding to fireworks complaints will use their discretion to decide whether an offender receives a warning or a citation.
