There will be plenty of action in Washington the first week in June as the Summer Classic kicks off Thursday, June 3 and runs through Saturday, June 5.
Thursday marks the return of Thursday Night Live on the square featuring a farmers’ market from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and live music on the bandstand. Thursday also starts off Ridiculous Days with 3 full days of sidewalk sales and retail bargains around the square.
Friday is Family Day. There will be free swimming at the Steele Family Aquatic Center for the first 175 participants courtesy of YMCA of Washington from 1 to 7 p.m. From 4 to 8 p.m. there will be children’s games and activities, pony rides, a photo booth and Face Art by Brandi. There will also be Touch-a-Truck where kids can explore fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, tractors and construction trucks. From 5 to 8 p.m. there will be live music, bandstand activities and games on stage presented by CityPoint Church followed by a movie, “The Big Green” with free popcorn at 8 p.m.
Saturday is Ridiculous/Ag Day and will feature a modern ag display of machinery and a tractor ride featuring lawn mowers, tractors and construction equipment. There will be food vendors, fun booths, a kids sing-a-long and more. At 2 p.m. the Optimist Club will hold a Recovered Bike Auction with bikes displayed at 1 p.m. A kiddie tractor pull will be held at 3 p.m. with sign ups held between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Registration for Ridiculous Superhero and Princess Contest participants is at 3:30 and the contest is at 4 p.m. For the Princesses and 4:30 p.m. for the superheroes. From 4 to 6 p.m. there will be an antique tractor parade from the fairgrounds to the retirement homes ending downtown to join the new Ridiculous/Tractor Parade which starts at 5:30 p.m. Live music featuring Mike Whittaker and Friends runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
