Events Make a Dreamy Washington Christmas Weekend
Washington, Iowa — November 21, 2019
The Christmas spirit is flourishing in town as evidenced by the myriad events planned between Friday, December 6 and Sunday, December 8 which will have area residents “Dreaming of a Washington Christmas”.
The festivities begin Friday with a Twilight Shop and Stroll event in downtown Washington from 5 to 8 p.m. where shoppers can get some serious Christmas shopping done while marveling at the downtown Christmas lights. The event is sponsored by Main Street Washington.
Santa Claus will be in Santa’s House, sponsored by Main Street Washington, at Greiner Buildings, 120 East Main Street, Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Kids should come prepared to share their list with the jolly old man.
Saturday night, the 29th annual Candlelight Tour of Homes, sponsored by the Washington Chamber of Commerce, runs from 4 to 8 p.m. with proceeds going to help fund the lights on the square. Tickets are available at the
Washington Chamber of Commerce office and at various businesses throughout the community. They are $9 in advance, six for $50 and $10 at the door.
After the tour, stop in at Café Dodici for a delicious dinner. They are offering three courses for $28 with $5 going to the downtown lights fund. They are also featuring one-half off bottles of wine.
On Sunday, Café Dodici is serving a $12 brunch with $3 going to the lights fund. Santa’s House is open again from 1 to 5 p.m. at Greiner Buildings. The Candlelight Tour of Homes resumes from 1 to 4 p.m. And to round things out, there will be a service of lessons and carols, “Christmas With Iowa Wesleyan – Let There Be Peace” performed at 7 p.m. at the Washington Performing Arts Center Auditorium. Free will donations will be welcomed at the event.
