WASHINGTON, IOWA — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Leave it to the Washington Chamber of Commerce to come up with two new Christmas activities that are both fun and safe during a pandemic. The 30th Anniversary Country Candlelight Tour of Homes event will be postponed to the 2021 year but the Chamber didn’t want to wait a whole year to bring a holiday event to our community so it came up with something new.
The Chamber is proud to announce a city wide “Get Lit” outdoor holiday lighting contest and a business Window Wonderland event.
Window Wonderland will be a contest for all Washington businesses to decorate their windows and outdoors for the holidays. The Chamber will have maps printed and online featuring all participating businesses available for participants to be judged to determine by vote who has the best decorated display. The winners of this contest will receive a Holiday Party in a Box filled with the perfect items to make the best holiday party for their office. If you would like to be part of this decorating contest please let the Chamber know by Friday, November 20th. The Window Wonderland contest will be held November 28th through January 4th. The idea is to make Washington look really wonderful this holiday season, so the Chamber hopes that many businesses join in on this fun.
Get Lit: Outdoor Holiday Lighting Contest will be open to all Washington residents and homeowners within the Washington city limits that want to decorate the exterior of their homes for the holidays. There will be a big grand prize for the winner of the contest which will run from November 28th through January 4th. Anyone can purchase a tour map and hop in a vehicle and drive around to look at lights. Remember the good old days when driving around and looking at the holiday lights was the thing to do? The Chamber wants to bring this back and offer a safe holiday activity.
The Chamber will create the map and sell it for $10 that will include discount deals to shop local this holiday season. It will be sold at the Chamber and also at any participating businesses that wants to sell them. The goal is promoting shopping local this holiday season.
If you would like to be part of this holiday lighted tour map and promotion booklet, please get back to the Chamber by Friday, November 6th.
Please feel free to email or call the Chamber with any questions. For Questions please contact Alisha Davis, Washington Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator at 319-653-3272.
