Mission and Vision
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
VALUES AND THE YMCA NAME
Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith remain the basis for all we do.
The Y is the YMCA. People most commonly refer to us as “the Y,” so that’s what we’re calling ourselves.
The “MCA” is not gone. “YMCA” is part of the new logo, introduced in 2010.
Our Y exists to serve all through inclusive services and programs.
In addition to mental and physical components, our Vision for Youth includes a spiritual component — the goal is to increase spiritual awareness in children and teens by encouraging volunteer service as an expression of love toward one another.
New Indoor Aquatic Center: In December of 2024 a new aquatic center was completed, featuring a 6-lane competition pool, zero-entry recreation pool, 8 person whirlpool, 2 single infrared saunas & one traditional sauna that seats up to 6 people. There are 2 family style locker rooms on the pool deck. The pool is treated with a chlorine and UV system (not salt water). Click here to learn more about the facility.
Areas of Focus:
Y’s offer the programs we do for a reason. Young people need safe and enriching environments to try new things, develop skills, meet new people and show what they’re capable of. Achieving and maintaining health in spirit, mind and body makes for a richer life and giving back to neighbors and those in need is our responsibility as neighbors, colleagues and citizens. The Y defines our areas of focus–the programming you’re part of every day–like this:
Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
Healthy Living: Improving the nation’s health and well-being In communities across the nation, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.
Social Responsibility: Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. The Y movement has been involved in character development from the beginning, emerging with four “core values” of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Our core values are incorporated into all of our programs and services to ensure that our members are able to learn, grow and thrive.
Our commitment to character development strengthens our communities and the people we serve by building on this commitment and making it part of our everyday activities here at the Y. The four character values are:
CARING (red to represent the heart): To love others, to be sensitive to the well-being of others, to help others.
HONESTY (blue to represent “true blue”): To tell the truth, to act in such a way that you are worthy of trust, to have integrity, making sure your choices match your values.
RESPECT (yellow to represent the “golden rule”): To treat others as you would have them treat you; to value the worth of every living being, including yourself.
RESPONSIBILITY (green to represent the environment and money): To do what is right, what you ought to do; to be accountable for your behavior and obligations.
