The 2021 Washington Water Main Improvement Project was developed as a result of an evaluation of the city’s water distribution system completed by the City of Washington in December of 2020. The study indicated that there are areas within the city’s distribution system in need of replacement from lack of fire flow as well as from water main breaks and prioritized needed improvements. Areas that demonstrated frequent breaks were determined to have higher priority and included E. Main Street from 12 Avenue to 15th Avenue, W. Washington Blvd from D Avenue to F Avenue, and W. Madison Street from C. Avenue to H Avenue. In addition, it was determined that additional water main replacement from H Avenue to Hwy 1 is necessary. The project will use up to $600,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funding (CDBG) and is planned to be constructed in the summer/fall of 2022. The anticipated total project cost of the project is approximately $2,500,000.
