A Journey of 10,000 Stitches: a presentation by Marykay Hymes
February 13 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Celebrate Fiber Arts February and join us for an exciting program that asks “How do you express experiences through Fiber Arts?”. Marykay Hymes will be sharing an eclectic exhibition of quilted art pieces inspired by journeys that have been shared in her book: “A Journey of 10,000 Stitches” currently under publication. From humorous tales to unique quilting techniques and embellishments, you will hear how her journeys have been expressed followed by a gallery walk to see the unique art works. From a tonal quilt to three dimensional fiber works, this program will be fun and inspiring. This presentation is also occurring as part of the Fiber Arts February Quilt Walk.
“My world is a kaleidoscope of amazing images, brilliant colors, constantly changing shapes and a cacophony of sounds and sensations that stimulate my imagination. Expressing all these in art quilts is both a challenge and a unique experience. As a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (BS Home Ec), the University of Hawaii (MS Nutrition), Black Hawk College (Associate Degree in Fine Arts) along with numerous workshops and a training in the art of hand quilting by the Amish and Appalachian quilters brings a diversity of experiences to my art. As an award winning fiber artist, teacher, art museum docent, and former college nutrition educator, I love to incorporate all sides into my art work. The side that needs to keep organization, ask questions, and find an order in the chaos, coexists within that part.
