Washington Municipal Band
August 5, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Washington Municipal Band is a community organization with over 60 members, ages 16 to 86. Musicians come from Washington and numerous surrounding communities to play band music that we love. The conductor and music director is Tom McNamar, who’s day job is Band Director at WACO High School in nearby Wayland.
The Band plays 10 concerts every summer in Washington’s Central Park in the renovated Bandshell. Concerts are Thursday evenings from 8:00pm to 9:00pm, and always end with a standing ovation.
The band performs on a bandshell that was renovated and expanded for over $300,000 in 2009. The renovated bandshell keeps many historic elements while adding new functionality like a sound enhancing roof, storage room, and accessible ramp. The project was funded by a large donation from Mr. John Jackson, age 94 (in 2011), of Fairfield, IA, who was an _original_ member of the band back in 1937. The rest of the project was funded by a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
Prior to the concert, the Washington Farmers Market begins at 5:00pm and the Chamber’s Thursday Night Live concerts at 6:30pm.
