Washington has been a delightful surprise to my little family. My husband is a Washington native and we moved here in April to be closer to his family and raise our daughter. Although we had family and friends from Washington with views on what to do and where, it was really important for us to make it our own experience. We put ourselves out there and attend events hosted by the Chamber and Main St.Washington- even if we don’t know anyone else attending. Honestly, we have met more people here in the last few months then we did the 4 years we lived in the Chicago suburbs. Another great place to mingle with other families is at the farmers market on Thursday evenings in the summer. We’ve also enjoyed quiet nature walks on the Kewash Trail.
As a health coach my schedule allows me to enjoy the town during the day with my 1 year old. We typically visit the library once a week where my daughter can crawl freely and explore books, puzzles, and toys. We also frequent Dodici’s Shop for a latte and snack that we bring to a park bench across the street. On Friday’s we love visiting our friends at the LET’s Center for the Healing and Creative Arts for some laughs and creativity. All of these places allow and even encourage my daughter to have fun and be herself, and as a parent there is nothing better. I would urge everyone to explore the things that Washington has to offer, you may be surprised too.
