WASHINGTON, IOWA August 19th, 2019 — The Washington Chamber of Commerce held the 18th Annual Educator Appreciation Breakfast for the Washington Community School District on Friday, August 16th. There were over 400 in attendance for this event, which is open to the Washington Community Schools, Washington Regional Kirkwood Community College, and St. James. This breakfast was catered by the presenting sponsor for the event, Hy-Vee and sponsored by 38 local businesses.
Teachers and staff were greeted with high fives as they walked into the doors of the Washington High School for their first working school day. Each teacher received a new, white t-shirt printed locally at Custom Impressions that features an enjoyable logo to remind them of how important their job is to our community. The attendees socialized over casserole, fruit, pastries, coffee, and juice before heading into the auditorium to receive a back-to-school blessing from Pastor Erin Kaye with the United Presbyterian Church. In addition, they heard a welcome speech from Washington Chamber of Commerce board Vice President, Adam McLaughlin, from Iowa Wesleyan University. The event concluded with the always entertaining, Teacher Skit to start the school year off with many laughs.
