Officer Shamus Altenhofen has been promoted to the position of Lieutenant and Officers Jason Chalupa and Benjamin Altenhofen have both been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
All three were presented a Certificate of Promotion and their new badges during a ceremony last night at the City Council meeting.
Lieutenant Altenhofen has been a member of the Washington Police Department since 2010. He has specialized training in narcotics investigations, law enforcement intelligence and case management and is a Crisis Intervention Training Instructor. He is the department’s investigator on the local multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force and is also the department’s assistant SWAT Team Leader.
Sergeant Chalupa began his law enforcement career in 2010 with the Centerville Police Department and was assigned to the South Central Iowa Drug Task Force. In 2012, he was hired by the Fairfield Police Department and joined the Washington Police Department in 2017. Sergeant Chalupa has specialized training in narcotics investigations and SWAT tactics. He is the department’s Firearms Instructor and also the SWAT Team Leader.
Sergeant Altenhofen began his career in 2011 working as a Jailer at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. In 2013 he was hired by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and joined the Washington Police Department in 2015. Sergeant Altenhofen is an ALICE instructor and serves as the department’s Field Training Officer and Defensive Tactics Instructor. He also has specialized training in evidence management and serves as the department’s property and evidence officer.
All three are graduates of Washington High School as well as Indian Hills Community College and Buena Vista University.
