Washington Fire Department Pancake Day Sets Record
WASHINGTON, IOWA January 13, 2020 — The first Washington Fire Department Pancake Day to be held in the department’s new building set a record serving approximately 4,500 pancakes to 2,200 hungry Washington area residents on Wednesday, January 8.
The annual event is a tradition that began in the 1950’s. Funds raised go to purchase equipment and fund training for firefighters. The department solicited donations from area businesses. Some 50 firefighters and volunteers from the community helped serve the throngs who came to eat pancakes, eggs and sausages.
