Washington County Extension invites the community to celebrate Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week April 12-17 at their Alive After Five open house event April 13. Iowa’s 100 county extension offices will host activities throughout the week to thank Iowans for their support of extension efforts throughout the state.
“The challenges of the past year changed how ISU Extension and Outreach serves Iowans, but not why: We want a strong Iowa. We are here for you now and always,” said Andy Miller, Washington County Extension county director.
This Alive After Five event will host interactive and informational booths from 5pm-7pm to showcase what ISU Extension & Outreach can do for the residents of Washington County. Guests will be able to meet Miller, the new county director as of February, and also other ISU Extension specialists who serve Washington County. Information will be available about local programs including Agriculture in the Classroom, Pick a Better Snack, 4-H, Women in Agriculture, and others. Door prizes and snacks will be highlights of the evening.
“This celebration is one way we can work to connect with families, volunteers, community leaders, organizations, agencies and other partners who live and work in Washington County,” Miller said.
ISU Extension and Outreach is part of the federal Cooperative Extension Service — a network of more than 100 land-grant institutions, including Iowa State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture serving communities and counties across the United States. Every county in Iowa has an elected extension council that determines how to support ISU Extension and Outreach educational programs at the county level.
