Tour of Homes Offers Eclectic Selection of Homes

Washington, Iowa  —  November 14, 2019

There is something for everyone’s architectural taste on the 2019 Candlelight Tour of Homes, sponsored by the Washington Chamber of Commerce December 7 and 8.  The tour offers visitors the opportunity to see  new construction,  a living space recently remodeled on the second level of the 1930’s Keifer Garage,  a 1900 Victorian home,  a home built in 1890 and one built in the 1950’s which has been recently gutted and updated.

The Joel and Darci Witthoft home at 1106 East Van Buren Street was built in 1890 and purchased by the Witthoft family in 2000. It features five bedrooms and two and one-half baths within its 2,823 square feet of space.  It has many updated features but still maintains its Victorian flair.

Steven and Mikayla Slechta want you to see their home at 803 South Second Avenue. This house was built in the 1950’s. The couple liked the location, bought the house, then proceeded to completely remodel it, adding a kitchen pantry, half bath and master closet.

Rachel Fishback lives in the most unique space on the tour at 115 1/2 South Second Avenue, the second floor of the Keifer Building. She has 5,000 square feet of living space. Her 2,500 square foot great room was designed to keep the feel of the 1930’s Keifer Garage, a Pontiac dealer that once was located in the building. Among the special features here are a car elevator, large windows, five bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Andy and Erin Drahota at 610 South 10th Avenue have new construction down to a science. This is the third home they have built in Washington. With each new home, they’ve discovered new  features which they have incorporated into this house. They love the openness of the great room and the way garland and lights line the archway between the living room and kitchen.

Jeremiah and Emilie Kaufmann live in a 1900 Victorian home at 621 West Monroe Street that they purchased in 2017. It features a fireplace, stained glass windows and pocket doors. The home is filled with early 1900’s antiques and restored treasures. The Christmas décor includes vintage items along with new decorations surrounded by the glow of twinkle lights.

Tour visitors can stop at Greiner Buildings, Inc. at 120 E Main for free refreshments during tour hours and get a sneak peek at the extensive renovation of the former library building that houses the business. There is also a free photo booth sponsored by Community 1st Credit Union.

Tour hours are from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Saturday, December 7 and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8. Tickets are $9 in advance and $10 at the door or 6 for $50 and are available at the Chamber of Commerce office, HOME Team Advantage Realtors, Dodici Shop, Jaz it Up, Wolf Floral, Earthly Blessings, The Village, Hy Vee, Washington State Bank, CBI Bank, Hills Bank and Community First Credit Union.  The event’s presenting sponsor is Home Team Advantage Realtors.
