WASHINGTON, IOWA — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Washington Chamber of Commerce and LET’s Center for the Healing & Creative Arts is excited to launch the brand new Chair-A-Thon event. This event is one that you can do from your own home and in a time where more people and families are mandated to stay home, the committee for this project thought it would be the perfect time to promote.
This event is replacing the Totally Tubular Auction that has been historically held in Washington for the past 5 years. The LET’s Center had the idea to do something different than decorating tubes and chose a piece to decorate that a lot of people have in their homes already and would be easily attainable, and viola a Chair-A-Thon was created.
All ages and skills levels are invited to participate in the Chair-A-Thon event. We are encouraging families, kids, artists, craftsman and more to join in on the fun. You can sign up on the Facebook event or visit our website: https://washingtoniowa.gov/experience-our-town/special-events-festivals/gallery-art-walk/. The participation fee is $10 per chair.
The Chamber is partnering with Repurpose It, and their business will be a one-stop-shop for chairs and Chair-A-Thon paint kits. Please contact them to order at
319-653-2287 or email [email protected]. Leslie Allender with Repurpose It will be hosting Live Facebook events to share DIY tutorials, tips and answer any creation questions.
All chairs will be displayed around the downtown storefronts for the month of July during the Annual Art Walk. The chairs will go to auction on Saturday, August 1st at 10 a.m. The Chair-A-Thon auction is set to be held at the State Theater on this date and more details will be announced for this event. All proceeds from the Chair-A-Thon auction will go toward the funding for future community mural projects.
The Art Walk committee is passionate about the project you can do from home that will carry over to beautify our community as a whole. For Questions please contact Alisha Davis, Washington Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator at 319-653-3272.
