Welcome to our new Chamber Blog, where we hope to provide insight into what is happening at Wooden Wheel Vineyards in the western Washington County. People often think that once harvest is over and the wine is in the tank there isn’t much to do, not so. The most important factor in making a good wine starts with the grapes. Since our first in frost
November, Connie has already long pruned each of our 4,000 vines. This is in preparation of the short pruning that occurs in April, before bud break. Another part of our business is the winemaking. Currently fermentation is complete, and it is all tucked away maturing into some more award-winning wine. Just to keep it happy, we sing to it every day…. Not really, but there have been studies that indicate wine quality can be higher if music is played during fermentation. Who would have guessed?
The 3rd area of what we do is the event center. This is the time of year when we are the busiest. Wedding season has slowed down, except for an occasional winter wedding, but the Holiday Season is in full force. Beginning the end of November all the way through the middle of February we are happy to host many Christmas parties. We look forward to seeing a variety of groups return each year including social groups, businesses, grower meetings and especially family Christmas gatherings. We offer a special family rate for Sundays. We love to decorate for the Holidays so stop out and see how we’ve decorated this year. We will even
let you sing Christmas Carols to our wine.
Happy Holidays Everyone!!
