Meals on Wheels:
This service is brought to you by the Washington Community YMCA, the Washington County Hospital and local area churches. The meals are prepared by the hospital and delivered by church volunteers. The Meals on Wheels Program is for any individual(s) of any age or income. Meals are designed for those persons who are recovering at home from a recent hospital stay or just need a hot meal on a daily basis. Special and Restricted diets can be observed. The meals are delivered Monday through Friday in Washington city limits only. Please contact Jolleen Cerka at (319) 653-2141 or [email protected] for more details. The cost of this meal is $3.50.
Summer School Lunch Program (CLOSED) We know that lunch at school can be a critical part of a child’s development and with the closure of the schools due to COVID-19 we are concerned about feeding our students, the Washington Community School District is offering school lunches for pick up 2 days/week (Mondays & Wednesdays). We drop off to multiple sites (map), and we will deliver to our rural community students. You will receive 2 lunches on Monday & 3 lunches on Wednesday to get your child(ren) through the week. You can also access the survey through the district website. We only serve meals on Mondays and Wednesdays. Thank you to all of our staff who are providing meals through this time of need!

Emergency Shelter Available: the shelter is available to those who need it. At this time we are in a self imposed shelter in place. We are monitoring residents & staff for symptoms of COVID-19 & are not allowing outside visitors or volunteers at this time.
Donations Needed: Canned Goods & Dry Goods (Mac N’ Cheese, Hamburger Helper, etc.)
United Way of Johnson & Washington County Community Relief Assistance Fund:
United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties is proud to partner with organizations and individuals to fund urgent needs for rental assistance, medications and/or household supply essentials for those directly impacted by COVID-19. 100% of the donated funds are distributed back into the community with no percentage retained for United Way administration.
Guidelines to receive help from UWJWC Community Disaster Relief Fund:
- Available to individuals with COVID-19 related needs from March 16, 2020 forward
- Urgent needs for rent assistance, medications, household supplies
- All Disaster Assistance Funds are distributed to vendors needing payment. No funds will be distributed to an individual
- Completed Disaster Assistances Intake and Signed Release Forms are required for consideration
- All Disaster Assistance Requests and Intake will be completed over the TELEPHONE to maintain social distancing– NO Walk-ins are permitted
- Requests will be processed in order received
- Disaster Assistance decisions are dependent on funds available

ENERGY ASSISTANCE:
If you need support with your energy bills during this difficult time, there are resources available to help. The federal government has increased funding to several programs due to COVID-19. Crisis funds are available to customers who are income qualified and are in a financial crisis. You can apply for these funds even if you have already received LIHEAP funding or if you have not received assistance in the past. Alliant Energy is now reviewing income guidelines as a forward-looking month, for those who have recently lost their job. CLICK HERE.

Need help coping with 2020? COVID Recovery Iowa is here to help! Iowans of all ages may join groups online to find support and learn creative strategies for coping with the effects of the pandemic. COVID Recovery Iowa will announce additional programs in the coming weeks to help Iowans build coping skills and resilience and are currently offering free virtual counseling and assistance for all Iowans affected by COVID‑19.
