Special Election to be Held for Council Vacancy
Residents of the City of Washington will soon select who will fill the Mayor vacancy. The Mayor vacancy occurred in March. The person elected will fill the rest of the Council term that expires in December 2027. The special election will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. All residents may cast a ballot in this election.
The first day that nomination papers can be filed at City Hall is June 10, 2024 with the deadline being at 5:00 p.m. on July 12, 2024. Twenty-five signatures of eligible electors who are residents are needed on the nomination papers, and an affidavit of candidacy must be filed with each set of nomination papers. Forms are available at City Hall, Washington County Auditor’s Office and the Secretary of State’s website.
